Background
Student A studied at a university in China and studied abroad in Nagasaki for one year when he was a third-year undergraduate student. After working in China for some time, he decided to enter graduate school and came to Japan.
Why did you decide to work in Japan?
I think that, on average, Japan is more economically developed than China. Also, life in Japan is comfortable, and that is another reason.
Why did you choose your current company (job offer company)?
My main goal in job hunting was to support people’s convenient and rich lives, and this company matched that goal. Helping society is my motivation. I believe that if I do work that helps society, I can keep my motivation.
What kind of work will you do?
I do not know yet. However, I would be happy if I can do work that uses my research.
What did you emphasize during job hunting?
I talked about my strength: I can work hard step by step toward a goal. For example, I studied Japanese with the goal of passing N1 and achieved it. I also studied hard to reach 800 points on the TOEIC test. In addition, I prepared for six months to enter graduate school. I shared these experiences.
Was there anything difficult?
To be honest, everything was difficult… (laugh). But I practiced many times and submitted entry sheets to many companies. Through many experiences, I slowly got used to it and understood it better.
Were there any effective ways to prepare for job hunting?
I have two suggestions: using apps and YouTube. For apps, I mainly used Mynavi, Rikunabi, One Career, Shukatsu Kaigi, and Minshu. However, it is important not to look at too much information and not to believe everything. Information on job-hunting websites and message boards is not always correct. I sometimes felt worried or depressed after reading comments online, and it was not good for my mental health. So, do not look too much. For YouTube, I often watched videos by a person called "utsu." I learned a lot, so I recommend it.
Also, when writing entry sheets, I looked at the "IR Information" on company websites. By reading this, I could understand the company’s management problems and risks. Then I thought about what I could do to solve those problems and wrote it in my entry sheet.
Do you have a vision for your future work?
I want to use what I have studied. I also want to become a reliable member of society.
Finally, please give a message to students who will start job hunting.
I think it is very important to carefully analyze yourself and find what you really want to do and what gives you motivation. Please have confidence and do your best in job hunting. You will be okay.
